Ukrainian Folk Sampler Kit

$50.00

This kit allows you to create your own embroidered sampler of the Ukrainian Cyrillic alphabet — whether you are an expert at cross stitch or have never touched a needle before!

The decorative patterns are inspired by traditional Slavic embroidery — blends of geometric and anthropomorphic motifs most commonly and traditionally seen in designs from Ukraine and surrounding regions. The full 33-letter Ukrainian Cyrillic alphabet runs in columns from left to right. Underneath each letter is the traditional embroidery symbol for that letter (diagonal on the left, stationary on the right). Between each grape leaf at the center of the outer border is a representation of how these symbolic letters can be used – see if you can decipher Слава Україні (Slava Ykraini / "Glory to Ukraine!").

This kit comes with everything you need to create the sampler, including: a five-page instruction guide, a full-color 8×11 pattern, full skeins of embroidery thread, 24-gauge DMC needle, and a blank aida-cloth canvas sized for the pattern (with finished edges!).

These kits are hand-crafted and made to order, using 90% recycled and repurposed materials; therefore, some threads and cloth are subject to variance in color. I work hard to ensure that the included threads and aida cloth closely match the prescribed colors of the patterns I’ve designed; however, if you do not like the included colors, remember that the materials included in the kit are there to get you started — you are always welcome to use your own!

Further, samples pictured in this listing show variance in creative execution. The provided pattern is a guideline. As you develop your skills in embroidery, you will find countless ways to imagine and expand and embellish patterns over and over again!
